A two day course for 6 participants with a ratio of one instructor to two participants on both days. Again, indoor climbing walls are the back-up option in the case of
poor weather but the aim would be to be climbing outside on both days.
Introduction to your instructors and the course. Re-cap on doing the basics well including fitting of harness, tying in, belaying, trad grades and using guidebooks before moving on to placing good gear, building solid anchors and correct clipping, as well as coaching movement and tactics for trad climbing. Progressions towards lead climbing will begin and the next step will be taken as participants feel comfortable.
The second day will continue to progress the climbers towards independently lead climbing. The day will refresh some skills from the previous day and then continue
lead climbing progression from the point left the prior day. During the day a retrievable abseil maybe to introduced depending on the venue and time. Each
climber’s progression will be different and rather than aim to have everyone lead climbing by the end of the two days the focus will be on appropriate progressions
towards lead climbing. It is, however, anticipated that most participants will take on a lead climb by the end of the second day.
Pre-requisites: Participants should have experience indoor or outdoor climbing prior to the course. They should be able to belay a lead climber.
Austrian Alpine Club members are eligible for a £80 grant (Young Adults £95) which will be available via application on completion of the course.
North Wales courses are based from Llanberis
Peak District courses are based from Hathersage

It is the full intention that the day will be conducted outside however due to weather and conditions, as well as other factors, the plan may have to be adapted. This could include rope work at a low level crag or skills at an indoor climbing wall. If a climbing wall is used an entry cost will be additional to the cost of the day.
