This two day course would introduce six people at a time to the basics of rock climbing. The aim would be to delivery this course outside, however weather and conditions could mean that local climbing walls are used as a backup option.
Introductions including course content and objectives. Skills start from the basics and include putting on harness and helmet, tying in and belaying. Climbing movement and techniques are then the focus and coached through bouldering and bottom roping.
A day of seconding single pitch routes with one instructor to two participants. The predominant aim of the day it to get participants becoming competent seconds. Therefore, skills such as lead belaying and removing gear will be taught as well as continuing climbing movement coaching. In addition, awareness of trad grades and
how to use guidebooks.
Pre-requisites: No prior climbing experience required.
Austrian Alpine Club members are eligible for a £50 grant (Young Adults £60) which will be available via application on completion of the course.

It is the full intention that the day will be conducted outside however due to weather and conditions, as well as other factors, the plan may have to be adapted. This could include rope work at a low level crag or skills at an indoor climbing wall. If a climbing wall is used an entry cost will be additional to the cost of the day.
